Prof. Chheang Ra, Minister of Health, said that the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (US-CDC) has made significant contributions to improving Cambodia’s resilient health care system, as well as improving the well-being of the Cambodian people.

He made this statement during a working meeting with Dr. Mandy Cohen, Director of the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, and W. Patrick Murphy, US Ambassador to the Kingdom of Cambodia, on February 7 at the Ministry.

The Minister highlighted the close cooperation between the Ministry of Health of Cambodia and the US-CDC in the fight against infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, malaria, and avian influenza, support for national laboratories and antimicrobial control labs, and participation in the protection of global health security after the establishment of its office in Cambodia since 2002, especially cooperation in the fight against COVID-19 as well as providing assistance for the COVID-19 vaccine.

Director Mandy reaffirmed her commitment to continue working together to strengthen the partnership to achieve the goals set out in the Health Strategic Plan 2022-2030 (HSP4) and to further strengthen global health security through continued support for the training of health officials to assist in the implementation of public health programmes in Cambodia and to continue to assist the Ministry of Health as well as the Royal Government of Cambodia on the implementation of the National Strategic Plan for Malaria Eradication by 2025.

She also praised the Royal Government of Cambodia in the context of Kovid-19 for showing its ability, intelligence, and resilience to fight against this global infectious disease. The rate of Cambodians receiving the Covid-19 vaccine is high compared to other countries in the region and the world.

The Health Minister thanked the United States, especially Dr. Mandy Cohen, and the Ambassador for their continued support and contribution to the Cambodian Ministry of Health’s efforts to improve the well-being of the Cambodian people and to collaborate with the Royal Government of Cambodia to achieve universal health coverage in accordance with the Strategic Plan of the Royal Government of the seventh mandate. Kampuchea Thmey
